#listww09: You need stamina to listen to reading for over an hour

May 28, 2009 By: Paul O'Mahony Category: Uncategorized

I’ve had enough. I’m full of words. Any more is over-fill.

This young woman is every bit as good as them all. She times her words. She could do with more variety of tone but to have timing is wonderful. Confident enough to pause, and vary her speed a bit.

But if I ever have a choice I must remember never to be a late reader, the audience may be thinking of food or fresh air. I need air, this feels hot in here.

The first warm weather for ages in Ireland. Icecream weather…

We are near the end, he says. I can’t catch the name… one of the children is on her school outing today. Pity or relief for her?

A young girl in a Kerry GAA jersey. Black coulottes with purple socks and white shoes.

This is memoir. Oh good a change. Memoir – so challenging to write, so wonderful in the benefit that it brings for the writer.

I think of George Hook’s memoir – that helped him to become a national hero rather than the world worst husband of all time.

Joseph O’Neill is sitting in the front row. Is he going to read for the girl who’s gone on her school trip. If so I’ll record it.

This girl reads on and shows no signs of flagging. This was a lengthy piece to write for school.
